I found a new favourite radio station, which I THINK is Canadian. The first time I came across it they were playing nothing but reggae, and the host had the thickest, raspiest Jamaican accent ever. I tuned into the same station a few hours later and they were playing good hip hop from some First Nations groups in their traditional language. I never know what I’m gonna get, except that it’ll be fantastic.

Being part of your condo’s strata council means you get to figure out very quickly who are the crazy ones. Just found out that a lady in the floor below turned on her kitchen sink and claims that she misjudged how long it would take for the sink to fill because it was full of pots and pans. And by misjudge I mean that she destroyed her whole floor and flooded the units below her so that their floors are completely destroyed.

I just saw Iron Man 3 this weekend, and it was actually really good despite my apprehensions. What was interesting was that the theatre was full of nerds who I believe had already seen it (It had just opened a few days ago) because they were quoting scenes and singing the songs. Gotta love the passion.

If you’re not feeling that last song, and are having more...

If you’re not feeling that last song, and are having more of a “euro” day, all you need is the first minute of this song. This would be my runner-up ring tone if I had a smart phone. First place goes to N making honking sounds interspersed with her saying “telephone”. I note that here so that I don’t forget when the inevitable day comes when I have to hang up my flip-open phone.

Snitches is for bitches - Zoobof & Vic20 (Pretty Sweet soundtrack)

UPDATE: Hmm, this just seem to work. I don’t seem able to play on this website, either. Changes to Tumblr, settings, maybe? Well go look it up. Do some research, kid.

This is the only banging R&B song I know of since that one...

This is the only banging R&B song I know of since that one by Aaliyah that throws in a baby sound in a booty-friendly song. Not feeling the start? Get to 0:25 and get back to me. Oh, still too slow? We’ll throw in a little freakout music around 0:55 to get you through the hard times.

At any rate, Vancouver is keeping the gnome dream alive with this little house shown above. I haven’t personally seen it yet, but if I ever get a hankering to go to New Zealand just to see hobbit-town I know I can just hop on the local bus and check this place out instead.

Have I mentioned that Lady C is my favourite Canadian dancer? ...

Have I mentioned that Lady C is my favourite Canadian dancer? The only Canadians I enjoy watching more are Slim Boogie when popping and J Boogie doing hip hop. It really shocked me when I heard that she’s just turned only 25 or so because she’s definitely an old soul who is mellow all the time. Just watching her dance improved my freestyle so much: she showed that you don’t always have to be going at 110% all the time. There’s time to groove small and chill where you’re at. Musicality is really the thing I want to learn from her.

Last year she moved from Calgary to Montreal, which probably has the best freestyle/battle community in Canada. This is not putting down the dance ability in other cities, but it seems like they take battling a lot more seriously there than anywhere else. This because really evident when people from Montreal come and enter a battle when they’re visiting Vancouver. While we’re still showcasing when we step into a battle, they will interact with the person they’re battling. The point is that, other than probably being in a better city to develop her singing career, Montreal is a great place to push Lady C’s freestlye abilities further. The link above is for an all-styles battle that ended up being modern dancing. I knew C had trained in ballet when she was a kid, but I’ve never seen her dance like this.

I don’t know when it happened, but somewhere in the last...

I don’t know when it happened, but somewhere in the last year or so I’ve joined the mob and am now a fan of all things Zombie. To illustrate, here are some of the outright zombie-nerd things I’ve been getting up to:

Read the book World War Z. Actually pretty clever in that each chapter is pretty much a stand-alone short story from a different part of the world, with some thought put in on the cultural/political environment in the different countries.

Bought a boardgame called Zombies!, which plays like a classic “There are zombies, I have a shotgun” movie. My defence: a bunch of my friends just had kids, so a good way to hang out is to bring a game over when I visit. Fun times plus no baby-management issues to arrange for.

Bought and played a video game called “Deadlight”, which is a stylized 2-D platformer but with zombies ocassionally bursting into the room to hurry you along. My official excuse for liking this game is the shadowy visual style of the game, and the fact that pieces of a diary hidden in the game hint to the main character actually being a murderer.

Bought a game called Zombie Dice. I can’t really defend this.

Read about Walking Dead BUT HAVE NOT ACTUALLY SEEN IT OR READ IT I SWEAR.

That may just be a matter of time. The image above links to a list of the 33 most frustrating things about the show. Even without watching the show I thought it was hillarious.

Dance update: pulled groin (?) muscle means I can bend my knees...

Dance update: pulled groin (?) muscle means I can bend my knees too well but still held my own in class. My favourite, though, is Christie (tall girl, last group).

Only want to listen to golden oldies radio stations: Also a new check. There’s this awesome radio station in Maui that plays some sweet 90’s and early 2000 tunes from my clubbin days. Plus they have this host named Omar who has the best postivity ever released on soundwaves.

Using the term “Whippersnapper”: Check. But hey, I’ll use that term if you’re only a year younger than I am.

Dehabilitating injuries caused by nothing: Check. I can barely walk due to a hip flexer muscle pull which I’m not even aware of getting.

Losing track of current technology: Check. Iphones are for suckers. My phone FLIPS open, ladies!

Kids these days and their…: Check. I don’t understand twitter. And move on.

Don’t understand a current trend/gags: This is a brand new check. I’m not 100% sure how to pronounce the word “Meme”. More importantly, it took me a few weeks to finally catch on to what the Harlem Shake youtube thing was all about. I first saw it mentioned in a blog and thought they meant the old hip hop dance move by the same name, which leads me to this video that I absolutely love.

Not to disrespect all the people putting up their own Harlem Shake videos online, but I would love for everyone who has posted one of those videos to watch this clip. Not only to learn what the real Harlem Shake is, but to be motivated and dance. I would love to see more people just put up some group freestyle sessions and go off! I mean, did you see that girl in the green sweater? She is so fierce!

So next on my road to senility: Hopefully plaid pants or free bus rides or something.

Photo

"Hyperion” is essentially a science fiction version of Cantebury Tales… but I got bored..."

““Hyperion” is essentially a science fiction version of Cantebury Tales… but I got bored and stopped reading it.”

- Book reviews for ADD episodes.

pleatedjeans:

My nominees for this year:

Cory Hart

Wearing track pants outside (i.e., when not running).

Wearing sweat pants outside.

Wearing hats backwards but at an angle.

Wearing hats completely sideways.

Wearing hats forwards but at an angle (trust me, there used to be a big difference between these three hat settings).

Wearing muscle shirts.

Liking songs by Rihanna.

Wearing skinny pants, back to super baggy, and back to skinny again.

Wearing a toque in the summer.

Awkward trends I managed to resist:

That kind of happened to me last night. A certain choreographer in Vancouver who shall not be named is getting people together for some filming projects. I had heard about it offhand because a few friends were asked to be a part of it… very hush hush. Didn’t think much of it since I’m not a real dancer (I consider myself a dance enthusiast).

On Saturday I got an email from my friend Sara (because I had lost my phone) saying we were invited to take part of some project. When I called her up she read the text to me, which she had received around 6, saying something along the lines of “I would like you and Kevin D. to be a part of this project I’m doing. Practice is at 6:30. Adress is ____. Tell no one; this is invite only. Make sure to tell Kevin.” So off we go.

So unfortunately, unlike the movies, I didn’t end up going. I had set up a rendezvous place with Sara, but without my phone we seemed to have missed each other. I then went to the address she had given me, assuming she had left without me, and it turned out to be a Racquet Sport Club? That would have been an interesting venue to practice at, for sure, but unfortunately I found out later that night that this was the wrong address. I’m supposed to go next week, hopefully with a little more prep time, but I learned an important lesson: plan better. And write things down. Because my memory is awful.

Is it odd for me to thing this video is incredibly adorable and...

Is it odd for me to thing this video is incredibly adorable and sweet? I mean, there’s not even a little kitten here but I find it touching.
